Specialist Strange chief and co-essayist Scott Derrickson had plans for a spin-off by October 2016. He endorsed to return as chief in December 2018, when Cumberbatch was affirmed to return. The film's title was declared in July 2019 alongside Olsen's association, while Jade Halley Bartlett was recruited to compose the film that October.
